Student Safety
Offering a safe and caring school environment is a priority for us at Maplewood. We expect students, staff, parents and visitors to hold themselves to the highest standards of respect and consideration.
Many members of the school staff are trained in safety protocols, first aid and CPR. We teach students to respond appropriately to emergency situations by practicing safe evacuation procedures.
COVID 19 Protocols
The COVID 19 Pandemic has presented some unique challenges for the school. From time to time the protocols have changed with little to no notice.
Current Protocols:- All students and staff are required to wear masks on campus and in school buses.
- All students and staff must observe appropriate social distancing.
- All students below 12 years of age must present a negative PCR test every 14 days.
- All vaccinated students from 12 - 15 must present a negative PCR test every 14 days.
- All non vaccinated students from 12 - 15 must present a negative PCR test every 7 days.
- All students above the age of 16 must be fully vaccinated and must present a negative PCR test every 14 days.
- All staff must be fully vaccinated and must present a negative PCR test every 14 days.
- All people who are medically exempt from the COVID 19 vaccine must present a negative PCR test every 7 days.
Blue School Initiative
In October 2021, the Department of Education and Knowledge announced the launch of the BLUE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE. This initiative is to encourage parents to have their children vaccinated against COVID 19. It is also intended to see schools take more steps towards returning to normal school operations.
Already, thanks to your ongoing support Maplewood has done well as we endeavor to provide the best, safest experience possible for all children.
While there are more details yet to come on the BLUE SCHOOL INITIATIVE, what we know at this point is that schools will be given a ranking in relation to the percentage of students who have been vaccinated. This ranking will translate into additional privileges afforded to the school.
The levels of the ranking system are as follows:
Orange – Less than 50% of all students (KG1 – Grade 12) are vaccinated.
Yellow – 50% - 64% of all students (KG1 – Grade 12) are vaccinated.
Green – 65% - 84% of all students (KG1 – Grade 12) are vaccinated.
Blue – More than 85% of students (KG1 – Grade 12) are vaccinated.
